MIDWEST CITY
INTERVIEW

MIDWEST CITY INTERVIEW:
On October 03, 2006, we had the opportunity to speak with Universal Motown's R&B quartet, Midwest City, for an in-depth interview about their background, upcoming album (Authentic R&B), projects, and personal lives.
It was mentioned that "Struggle" and "Respect" is at the core of every song. What made you guys decide to focus on these two topics?
MIDWEST CITY: It wasn't really an option because as we were writing this album, we were struggling like crazy. When you're struggling like that, all you can think of is getting at it and being successful. The way we were living it was really crappy.

MIDWEST CITY (SOLOMAN): Not all of the songs are just about "Struggle" and "Respect." You got songs like "One Love," "Be A Man," "Grown and Sexy," where they're all love songs dedicated strictly to women. You pretty much got a variety of subjects.
In terms of producers, who did you guys work with?
MIDWEST CITY: We worked with Cool & Dre for our first single, "One Love." You have L.T. Hutton and Trackmasters. We had two in-house producers called Poli Paul and Will Campbell.
Do you guys have any favorite songs off the album?

MIDWEST CITY (SOLOMAN): My favorite joint off the album is "Be A Man" because it is saying that you don't party your life away and that you're now ready to settle down and bring it back home to do your thing right. It says a lot about maturity.

MIDWEST CITY (TONE): I'll say "Ghetto Superstar." It really represents the struggle and just letting people know at home that we don't forget where we came from.

MIDWEST CITY (SHAMALE): I'm going to have to go with "She Will." Just because like...you got a girl and you do something that lets her get away from you and you want her back...that is a song for that. No one can love you better like she will. That is my favorite song because it has a lot to do with people we talk to and life in general.

MIDWEST CITY (SHAY): My favorite is "Cause and Effect."

Do you guys have a tour or any upcoming promotional events?
MIDWEST CITY (SHAMALE): We're actually doing the Heineken Red Star Soul Tour right now and the BET Black College Tour. We have some dates on the Heineken in DC. Coming up, October 9th is in Chicago. We have some dates this weekend in Atlanta on the BET Black College Tour.
Moving on to your personal lives, what do you guys do on your free time?

MIDWEST CITY (SOLOMAN): I like to do a lot of bowling, playing basketball, and hanging out with my friends.

MIDWEST CITY (TONE): Play video games, mainly Gamecube and Nintendo DS. I also like to play and write music on the computer.

MIDWEST CITY (SHAMALE): I am usually on the TV or checking out all the movies that we didn't get a chance to see 'cause we're off doing something.

MIDWEST CITY (SHAY): I usually don't do anything, but watch sports.

Where do you guys see yourselves in 5 years?
MIDWEST CITY (SHAY): Some of us are better at producing, but I still see ourselves still being a group. We'll still be singing.
If fans want to contact you, what is the best way for them to do so?
MIDWEST CITY: They can go to MidwestCityMusic.com and that site will take you to all of our different sites that you can hit us up on. They'll be able to find everything they want on that one site right there.
Do you have any thank you's or final thoughts for your fans?
MIDWEST CITY (SOLOMAN): I want to give a shoutout to all my people back home in Midwest City. We love y'all and thanks for holding us down. Give a shoutout to Universal Motown for seeing 4 talented young men and giving us the chance for us to go out and do our thing. Thank you for everyone going out and supporting us. And Thank You!
